Provincial investment will support facility modernization, workforce development, and growth in Ontario’s marine industrial and ship repair sector
Port Colborne, Ontario July 8, 2026 – Allied Marine and Industrial (“AMI”), a leading provider of marine mechanical, machining, fabrication, and manufacturing services, announced today that they have received $8 million through the Ontario Shipbuilding Grant Program (“OSGP”).
The OSGP funding will support the modernization of operations through investments in advanced equipment, expanded service capabilities, and workforce development, including the hiring and upskilling of personnel. These investments will be made at AMI’s Port Colborne, Ontario facility, where an expansion to the existing building will provide the capacity needed to advance strategic partnerships and support continued business growth including equipment upgrades, a clean fuel room, and a marine training simulator.
“This investment will allow us to expand our commercial ship repair capabilities, modernize our operations, and invest in the skilled workforce needed to support Ontario’s marine sector,” said Bob Mitchell, Founder & CEO of Allied Marine and Industrial. “It will help unlock new opportunities for innovative growth, strengthening marine and industrial excellence in Ontario.”
“Port Colborne’s connection to the marine industry runs deep. Our community has been built around the Welland Canal, skilled trades, and the people and businesses that keep vessels moving through the Great Lakes,” said Port Colborne Mayor William Steele. “This investment in Allied Marine & Industrial reinforces Port Colborne’s position as a leader in Ontario’s marine industry while creating opportunities for future generations to build rewarding careers right here in our community. The City is proud to support Allied Marine & Industrial and celebrate this funding through the Ontario Shipbuilding Grant Program – a significant investment in Port Colborne’s future.”
Construction of the facility expansion and completion of the project components is expected by the fall of 2027, positioning AMI for long-term growth while creating lasting economic opportunities, supporting Ontario’s marine industrial sector, and creating skilled jobs for years to come.
